Paused: Two-month Pilot – Dog Off-Leash Friendly Area in Deer Valley
Deer Valley pilot will not proceed on July 1.
After careful consideration of concerns raised by residents in the neighbourhood, the pilot has been paused while other potential locations for the pilot are reviewed.
Requests for an off-leash dog area on the west side of the city are common. The Deer Valley pilot was one option we were exploring, and resident feedback was central to the project.
City Council heard resident feedback on the topic outlining concerns around noise, safety, impacts to wildlife and parking. After careful conversation, it was decided that the pilot project would not proceed as previously planned and that this kind of amenity would be considered in the future in another location.
Another review of potential west-side sites for an off-leash pilot will be completed, with input from the Parks, Recreation and Culture Board and the Leduc Environmental Advisory Board. No timeline has been determined, and details will be shared when available.
We thank the community for raising their comments and concerns. We will continue to look at options and opportunities to bring more amenities to Leduc’s west side.
Residents with any questions or comments about the pilot can contact us at communitydevelopment@leduc.ca or 780-980-7177.
In the meantime, dog owners are encouraged to visit one of Leduc’s existing three off-leash dog parks (K9 Off-leash Dog Park; Barclay Off-leash Dog Park; Outlook Park).
