Christmas Bird Count 2020

The Christmas Bird Count is a great festive activity to do while practicing physical distancing from the comfort of your backyard!

Residents are encouraged to participate in this year's Christmas Bird Count on Sunday, Dec. 20, to learn more about the various species of birds that call the Leduc region their winter home.

To help identify our feathered friends, the City of Leduc offers a free winter bird guide. Free printed copies are available on a first-come, first-serve basis at the Leduc Public Library or by calling the Eco-smart Hotline at 780-980-7107.

How to participate:

  1. Fill out this tally sheet. For our mobile users, please remember to save the PDF first so you can fill out the tally sheet online.
  2. Watch for birds for at least 30 minutes, on Sunday, Dec. 20 — anywhere in the Leduc, Beaumont or Kavanagh region. Don't forget to record your sightings!
  3. Email your completed tally sheet no later than Jan. 5, 2021, to ecosmart@leduc.ca. Alternatively, hardcopy tally sheets can be mailed to the City of Leduc Civic Centre (#1 Alexandra Park, Leduc, AB T9E 4C4).

All participants returning completed tally sheets will be entered into a random prize draw for a bird feeder and bird seed.

Contest rules:

  • Tally form must be submitted by Jan. 5, 2021.
  • Draw will be made on Jan. 6, 2021.
  • City of Leduc staff and their immediate family members are not eligible to win.
  • Winner must complete a release and consent form to claim prize.
  • Full contest rules

Contact the Eco-smart Hotline at 780-980-7107 for more information. The Spring and Christmas Bird Counts are joint initiatives of the Leduc Environmental Advisory Board (LEAB) and the City of Leduc, and are sponsored by Canadian Tire.
