Christmas bird count offers festive family fun

Friday, December 13, 2019

Residents are encouraged to participate in this year’s Christmas bird count on Sunday, December 15 to learn more about the various species of birds that call the Leduc region their winter home.

To help identify our feathered friends the City of Leduc offers a free winter bird guide available for download at Leduc.ca. Free printed copies are available on a first-come first-serve basis at the Leduc Public Library or by calling the Eco-smart Hotline at 780– 980-7107.

Participation in the bird count is easy:

  1. Call the Eco-smart Hotline for a tally sheet or download one from Leduc.ca.
  2. Participate on Sunday, Dec. 15 and watch for birds for at least 30 minutes — anywhere in the Leduc, Beaumont or Kavanagh region.
  3. Return your completed tally sheet no later than Friday, December 27 to ecosmart@leduc.ca, drop off/mail to the City of Leduc Civic Centre reception, #1 Alexandra Park, Leduc, AB.  T9E 4C4

All participants returning completed tally sheets will be entered into a random prize draw for a bird feeder and bird seed.

The spring and Christmas bird counts are joint initiatives of the Leduc Environmental Advisory Board (LEAB) and the City of Leduc and sponsored by Canadian Tire.
