Leduc welcomes Communities in Bloom international judges
It’s all-hands-on-deck at the City of Leduc in preparation for the Communities in Bloom (CiB) judges' arrival, Aug. 18 to 20, 2022. Leduc, as a mid-sized city, is a part of the International Communities in Bloom challenge competing with other similar sized communities in Canada, Italy and Belgium.
The City of Leduc has more than 300 ha of green spaces, 50 parks and has planted over than 3,000 trees and shrubs in the past five years through Arbour Day, wetland restoration and tree replacement programs. City of Leduc Parks crews take immense pride in creating and maintaining 800 flower and shrub beds, naturalized areas, urban forestry program and 33 athletic fields.
Participation by residents and businesses can help Leduc capture the 5-Bloom award; now is the time to show off your green thumb, your commitment to environmental action and a beautiful city.
Communities in the international challenge are evaluated by a jury panel regarding the accomplishments of the entire community (municipal, business/institutions, citizens and community groups) based on the following criteria:
- Community appearance
- Environmental action
- Heritage conservation
- Tree management
- Landscaped areas
- Plant and floral displays
Winners of the 2022 challenge will be announced at the National and International Awards Ceremonies in Victoria, B.C., Oct. 20 to 23, 2022.
Leduc has participated in CiB for more than two decades and has a successful history.
