Applying for a Business Licence
Due to the Canada Post mail disruption, there will be delays in the delivery of renewal notices by mail. Sign up for a Cityview Portal account that will be linked to your business licence and renew your licence online. If you have any questions, please contact Business Licensing at business@leduc.ca or 780-980-8427.
Any person carrying on business within the City of Leduc requires a valid City of Leduc Business Licence*, renewed December 31 annually.
*Certain organizations and service providers are exempt from paying business licence fees by Provincial or Federal law. Those exempt from payment for a licence are still required to attain a licence free of charge from the City of Leduc.

Applying for a business licence
Apply for a City of Leduc Business Licence. Depending on the nature of the application, we might require more information. If this is the case, our Business Licence Administrator will contact you.
Business Categories
Category | Description |
General | Businesses based within the City of Leduc in a Commercial or Industrial Land Use Classification. |
Resident (Home-based) | Businesses based out of a residential dwelling within the City of Leduc. |
Non-resident | Businesses based outside of the City of Leduc limits. |
Mobile | Businesses that operate out of temporary structure, display or stand (location-specific for each licence). Eg. corn stand, food truck at special event, temporary windshield repair, etc. Mobile businesses require landowner permission to be submitted with the application. |
Non-profit or charitable organization | Non-profit or charitable organization based within the City of Leduc. |
With all Business License Applications you must submit a Corporate Certificate or Proof of Filing (examples).
Business Licence Fees
Fees for business licences are outlined in the Fees & Charges Bylaw. For new businesses located in Leduc, your fee will be based on the portion of the year remaining when you apply for your licence.
For Non-Resident Businesses, when you apply for a business licence after September 31, the fee for the rest of the year will be 50 per cent of the annual fee.

Fees can be waived upon proof of charitable or non-profit status.
Business Licence Renewals
Annual Licence renewal notices are sent out to businesses in December. Payment is required by December 31 for the coming year.
A simplified and improved renewal process is here for 2024, changes include:
- All renewals must be done online through the CityView portal
- Business licences will be sent out electronically – no more paper licences
- Proof of a valid licence can be presented electronically or physically (print via CityView)
- An option to choose between a one-year or a two-year licence (save 15 per cent)
- A 10 per cent early bird discount for one-year renewals done before Dec. 31, 2024 (discounts cannot be combined or accumulated)
Note: Fees have been revised to bring them in alignment with municipalities in our region.
Renewal notifications and reminders are sent via email (or post if no email is provided).
How to renew online (CityView Portal account required)
- Sign in to your CityView account
- Click on “My Items” located on the right-hand side.
- Click on the arrow beside “My Business License Applications” or "My Contractor License Applications" whichever has a number in brackets.
- Click on “Renew this License.”
- Update your information as necessary. (Please reapply for a new licence if your business ownership or location has changed).
- Select business licence renewal option.
- Complete the payment of your fee.
Once payment is complete, we will review it and notify you via email when your business licence is approved and available for download in your portal account.
*NOTE: PAYMENTS CANNOT BE MADE AT YOUR FINANCIAL INSTITUTION OR WITH E-TRANSFER.
How to create a CityView account
To create a new Cityview Portal account follow these steps:
- Click "Register" on the right under "CityView Portal."
- Create your account.
Once your account is confirmed, email business@leduc.ca to link it to your business licence application. This will allow you to renew, pay, and access your new licence.
