Leadership & Certification Programs

Aquatic Centre FAQs

Unfortunately, pools have to be closed in an untimely manner due to pool fouling. Health regulations require pools to be closed anywhere from one to 36 hours for the necessary disinfecting.

For health and safety reasons, outdoor footwear and strollers are not permitted on deck or in the changerooms. Shoe racks are provided at the changeroom entrance and the viewing area on the deck. Strollers can be left in the “Stroller Parking Lot” and exchanged for pool strollers, allowed on the deck and in the changerooms.

Public swimming is offered at different times every day. Depending on the day and time, some or all pools may be unavailable due to swimming lessons and other aquatic programs. Refer to the Pool Schedule or speak with a Guest Services Representative to confirm times.

  • Zero – seven years of age: need supervision (maximum of four children to one supervisor)
  • Eight years of age and older: does not need to be accompanied

Unless otherwise noted, all drop-in and registered aquatic fitness program participants must be at least 14 years of age.

The West Guest Services desk provides a tuck shop for your swimming needs (while supplies last). You can purchase goggles, nose clips, swim caps, swim diapers, towels, and a limited stock of towels and ear plugs. Baby boats are available for free on deck.

Become a Lifeguard

Most people believe lifeguards simply stand on deck and watch swimmers all day.

Still, safety supervision and patron surveillance are more complicated than they appear and make up only about half of a lifeguard’s duties. At the LRC, lifeguards provide first aid services for the entire LRC. We treat anything from a simple sprain to a suspected spinal or head trauma. City of Leduc Aquatic Services certifies lifeguards through the Lifesaving Society’s National Lifeguard (NL) program.

How to register: Courses run throughout the year, so you can register anytime. Check out our Registered Lifeguard programs at Live.Leduc.ca or call Guest Services at (780) 980-7120.

Swimming Lessons

The Aquatic Centre offers swimming lessons for all ages and abilities, occurring either once or twice a week. When you choose LRC Aquatic Centre swim programs, your child will receive proven, age-appropriate learning through games, songs and drills, focusing on safety, comfort, and love of aquatic environments.

To keep our classes safe and fun for everyone:

  • Please help the Lifeguards and Instructors ensure everyone’s safety by keeping your children close at hand in and out of the water, before and after your lessons.
  • Public swimming is not available during lessons. If you wish to swim before or after your lessons, please see the Public Swim Schedule for available times.
  • If you would like to participate in your child’s lesson on parent day, please arrange with another parent for any additional children on this day.

If you are new to the Lifesaving Society Canada programs but have taken swimming lessons with another organization, you can pick up where you left off.

Take the guesswork out of registration. In just 10 minutes, an instructor can assess your child’s skill level and suggest the right class level for them. The fee includes a drop-in single admission to LRC. When utilizing this admission, if the swimmer being evaluated is under eight years of age, a responsible supervisor aged 14 or older will be required to purchase a wristband and swim with them as per our active supervision policy.

To set up, speak with a Guest Services representative to get in touch with an Aquatic staff member or email [email protected] to request an available time.

Please remember that your child’s progress is not necessarily indicated by their completion or incompletion of a level. Our experienced instructors focus on ensuring class safety and properly developing your child’s swimming skills. More than one attempt at a level may be required.
