Fire Prevention

It’s that time of year again when residents are starting to spend more time enjoying the outdoors, cooking on barbeques or smokers, gathering around fire pits, and exploring the multiway trail system.

Residents are also asked to take steps to help protect our community. Here are a few easy proactive fire prevention activities to keep in mind throughout the season to help everyone stay safe:

  • Maintain yards: prune trees, mow grass, clean roof and gutters, clear debris from under decks and away from buildings
  • Dispose of cigarette butts in fire safe containers
  • Clear debris away from the hot exhaust of vehicles, ATVs and yard equipment
  • Backyard firepit safety:
    • Ensure your firepit meets the Fire Services Bylaw requirements
    • Keep water nearby
    • Do not leave the fire unattended or allow fire to burn out on its own
  • Understand the difference between fire advisories, restrictions or bans and what they mean for you. None are in effect at this time; however, please keep an eye on Leduc.ca and the City’s social media channels for notification if any are implemented.
