The City of Leduc is introducing a new approach to facility rental pricing for the Maclab Centre, aimed at supporting local community groups, ensuring fairness in rental rates, and enhancing transparency for all residents.
The updated pricing methodology, approved by Council during this year’s budget process, and the newly calculated rental fees will take effect in fall 2025. Annual rental pricing updates will occur at the start of every new performance season (fall).
The new approach establishes single base rental fees for the facility based on service type. These base fees were calculated by averaging the costs of running the facility and providing services with rental prices of comparable venues in the region. This ensures that rental rates are both fair and aligned with regional market values.
Recognizing the vital role community groups play in enriching the local cultural landscape, the City has also developed clear subsidy eligibility criteria. Subsidies will be applied to the relevant base rental fee to make the facility more affordable for eligible groups. The discount provided through subsidies to eligible groups can range from 30 per cent to 64 per cent.
The City is committed to investing in our local community groups and maintaining regional competitiveness while ensuring responsible stewardship of our facilities. This updated pricing methodology allows us to balance affordability with transparency and fairness, making sure that subsidies are equitable, visible and accessible.
The updated pricing approach is the first change since 2015, reflecting the growth in services offered at the centre and rising operational costs. These adjustments are not expected to have a significant impact on the City’s budget or rental revenues, and there will be no additional costs to taxpayers.
The methodology for determining the new rental pricing was developed with input from the Parks, Culture, and Recreation Board, local user groups, facility staff members, and Leduc City Council. It aims to maximize investment in the community while maintaining equitable and responsible pricing for all users.
