Changing weather can create favourable conditions that easily lead to fire ignition from a small ember or spark. A fire ban or restriction may be issued during these times to help protect the City of Leduc and its citizens.  Please see the differences listed below.

Fire Advisory is a notice for awareness that the fire hazard rating has increased due to dry conditions. Under an advisory, open-air fire permits and the use of campground and backyard fire pits are still allowed. Residents are asked to use caution when burning.

A Fire Restriction prohibits all open air burning, including industrial and agricultural-based fires. Under a fire restriction, all open air fire permits are suspended and no new fire permits will be issued.

The following activities are permitted under a Fire Restriction:

  • Backyard fire pits meeting the requirements of the City of Leduc Fire Services Bylaw
  • Natural gas and propane appliances designed for cooking or heating (ie: barbecues, heaters, approved fire pits)

A Fire ban prohibits all open burning, including industrial and agricultural-based fires, as well as fires in campgrounds and backyard fire pits, and solid fuel burning devices (e.g. charcoal briquettes and smokers).

Under a fire ban, portable propane fire pits, gas or propane stoves, propane or natural gas barbecues are allowed. All open-air fire permits remain suspended and no new fire permits will be issued.
