Extreme Weather Supports

To help keep all in the community safe, the City's extreme weather plan is activated during times of extreme heat, extreme cold, and poor air quality. This includes the availability of public buildings (the Civic Centre and the LRC) for temporary daytime reprieve, as well as the support of the City's designated FCSS Navigator.

Weather conditions are monitored using The Weather Network. The following conditions prompt the activation of the extreme weather plan:

  • Extreme Cold: for three consecutive days, the winter temperature drops to -20Co with a windchill.
  • Extreme Heat: for three consecutive days, the summer temperature hits +29Co
  • Poor Air Quality: for two consecutive days, the air quality activation score is 7 or higher.
