City celebrates completion of Telford Lake multiway loop

Thursday, October 3, 2019

The City of Leduc has finished the final phase of multiway required to complete an 8.2 km trail loop around Telford Lake. The new section of multiway that links trail users to some of Leduc’s most scenic natural and recreational areas was made possible with nearly $2.4 million in funding from the Government of Alberta’s Municipal Sustainability Initiative.

“We are pleased to have provided funding from the Municipal Sustainability Initiative for Leduc’s Telford Lake multiway,” says Kaycee Madu, Minister of Municipal Affairs. “This investment enhances residents’ quality of life as families and neighbours enjoy the recreation and fitness opportunities the park trails provide. These types of amenities also attract new businesses and residents looking to make their homes in a vibrant community.”

“Leduc’s multiway system has long been a community favourite. It connects the city with nearly 70 km of trail, and now includes greater access to the beautiful scenery, natural areas and recreational facilities around Telford Lake,” says Leduc Mayor Bob Young. “We appreciate the provincial government’s assistance in helping us make the Telford Lake area more accessible and enjoyable for all.”

Construction on multiway through Leduc Lions Park and along the south of the lake started in 2018, and the final connection at the east of the lake was completed in summer 2019. The city consulted with environmental professionals throughout design and construction to ensure preservation of the lake’s ecosystem and natural features.

The trail is fully paved with some landscaping and additional features to follow in the coming months. It is maintained year-round, as per the city’s multiway standards, to allow trail users access during all seasons.

The extension of the multiway around Telford Lake is part of the Telford Lake Master Plan. For more information on the plan, multiway and other capital projects, please visit Leduc.ca.
