City Council approves permanent e-scooter program in Leduc
Leduc City Council voted unanimously in favour of making e-scooters a permanent fixture in the community during Monday evening’s council meeting.
City Administration will send out a request for proposals (RFP) this spring to find a single business to operate e-scooters in Leduc as early as this summer. This approach is common in smaller municipalities and ensures there is accountability on e-scooter numbers and availability.
They will be required to operate between 50 and 150 e-scooters throughout Leduc during the summer months, with the higher-end demand during major city events such as Canada Day and Summer in the City.
As a mode of active transportation, e-scooters have become a popular method of leisure and recreation for Leduc’s residents. During 2023, approximately 4,000 riders used e-scooters in the city 20,080 times as part of the two-year e-scooter pilot.
