City of Leduc and RCMP address rise in thefts at LRC
In response to a recent increase in reported thefts at the Leduc Recreation Centre (LRC), the City of Leduc and RCMP are working closely together to address the issue and reassure residents that steps are being taken to enhance security and prevent future incidents.
The City has implemented enhanced security measures at the LRC, including:
- Increased security personnel on-site
- Additional walkabouts by facility monitors
- Vigilance in reporting suspicious behaviour to the RCMP
Since the end of May, 11 instances of theft have occurred, with the organized offenders gaining access to locked lockers and taking personal belongings such as bags, phones, wallets, keys, cash and gift cards.
- LRC users are encouraged to:
- Leave valuables at home
- Use the free wallet/key lockers available near the Fitness Centre, Aquatics Centre or Guest Services
- Report any suspicious behaviour to Guest Services staff, such as people accessing the pool change room but not the pool or people accessing lockers that you know are not theirs.
Anyone who has information about this investigation or can identify the suspect(s) is encouraged to contact the Leduc RCMP at 780-980-7267. Those looking to provide information and remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com or through the P3 Tips app available via the Apple App or Google Play Store.
