Leduc Budget 2024 Update
Leduc City Council hosted their fourth municipal budget deliberation meeting on Nov. 20, where the proposed 2024 Community and Protective Services operating and capital budgets were presented by Darrell Melvie, General Manager of Community and Protective Services.
Proposed Community and Protective Services Operating Expenditure
- Bridges program: increase of $20k
- Recreation Access Program: increase of $48k
- Maclab Centre funding: increase of $91k

RCMP funding increase: 3.5 per cent
- Note: this does not include any requests for additional members or staffing resources
- Fire Services overtime allocation: one-time funding request of $249k
- Recreation custodial services: increase of $25k
Proposed Community and Protective Services Projected Revenue Adjustments
- Maclab Centre: decrease of $21k
- Fire Services: increase of $450k
- Recreation Services admissions/memberships: decrease of $125k
- Recreation Services rentals: increase of $70k
- Recreation Services sponsorship: one-time decrease of $40k
- Recreation Services commissions/program revenue: decrease of $30k
Proposed Service Level Adjustments

Treaty, Truth and ReconciliACTION contract: proposal would fund a 2-year continuation of an external advisor to support City efforts in truth seeking, reconciliation, developing community capacity, and improving Treaty relations with Indigenous Peoples.
- Cost of service level adjustment, if approved: $50k per year for two years

Leduc Arts Foundry downtown lease
- Cost of service level adjustment, if approved: $53k ongoing

Dr. Woods House Museum: proposal for one-time funding to support collection curation and digitized asset management of heritage artifacts and an assessment to plan for potential future facility operations and use.

Proposed Community and Protective Services Fees and Charges Changes

2 per cent increase to fees for admissions; memberships; and rentals of arenas, indoor fields and courts, outdoor athletic fields, ball diamonds and parks

Proposed Community and Protective Services Capital Costs
- Lions Outdoor Rink replacement of rink boards: $100k
- Playground replacement partnerships with community/parent associations: $200k
- Telford Park sheltered picnic site: $80k
- West end dog park: $15k

Upcoming Budget Deliberation Meeting
This was the fourth of five budget deliberation meetings that will be held in Leduc until Nov. 27. Leduc City Council will meet once more next week on Nov. 27 to discuss items that have been flagged for further debate throughout the previous deliberation meetings.

The final 2024 municipal budget will be presented to City Council requesting their approval on Monday, Dec. 11.
