Message from Mayor Bob Young to 2021 Graduates

Thursday, June 10, 2021

"Dear Graduating Class of 2021,

On behalf of Leduc City Council, it is my pleasure to wish you our heartfelt congratulations on the occasion of your graduation.

As a former teacher, high school graduation holds particular significance for me. It’s special not only because it is a milestone that recognizes dedication, hard work and growth in the life of a young person, but also because it symbolizes the moment when they will take their first steps into adulthood.

Your celebration this year may not look the way you always thought it would, but I encourage you to find ways to mark the occasion anyway. Celebrate the obstacles and the achievements; the friendships forged, memories made and lessons learned that will stay with you through the rest of your life.

This year has required a level of adaptability that would not otherwise have been asked of you. While this may feel a bit disappointing, please also remember that the strength and resiliency you’ve built will serve you well as you move forward in life. It hasn’t been what you expected, but your final year of school has prepared you for the real world.

My sincere hope for each of you is that you will find joy and excitement in this unique season of your life. While we don’t know what the future holds, we do know that the world is full of possibility and its doors are wide open to you.

Take chances. Seize opportunities. Explore, and grow, and make mistakes and remember that – no matter where life takes you – you are always welcome here. You are turning the page onto an exciting new chapter in life, but Leduc will always be your home."

Sincerely,
Bob Young
Mayor - City of Leduc
