Results of cosmetic pesticide survey are now available
Results of a recent cosmetic pesticide survey, presented to Leduc City Council on March 13, indicate that Leduc residents would like more information about pesticide use and alternatives.
The statistically valid survey was conducted between Oct. 16 and Nov. 17, 2022, to gauge residents’ thoughts and general understanding of pesticides, their regulation, their application. In total, 400 people participated in the public engagement opportunity.
Results showed that:
- More than 60 per cent of respondents were interested in an educational campaign on the topic;
- 54 per cent opposed any regulation of pesticide use;
- 74 per cent of respondents had no concerns about current pesticide practices; and,
- Beautification and naturalization of parks and green spaces are important to the community.
A What We Heard Report was part of the presentation to Council and will be used to determine if pesticide use will be regulated in Leduc. The information will also be used to help inform public education in the community in the future.
