Slo-Pitch Tournament Generates $1.1 Million in Economic Activity for Leduc

The City of Leduc benefitted from $1.1 million economic activity generated by the 2024 Canadian Slo-Pitch Championships from Aug. 11 to 17, 2024, held at the William F. Lede Park ball diamonds. On average, each visiting party spent over $2,200 during their time in Leduc.  

Of the nearly 2,000 visitors:  

  • 64 per cent came from outside Leduc and the Greater Edmonton Area 
  • 42 per cent indicated it was their first time in Leduc  
  • 74 per cent came to Leduc solely for the tournament 
  • 92.3 per cent indicated they would likely return to Leduc in the future 
  • Each party spent an average of 7.4 nights in Leduc 

“The success of the Canadian Slo-Pitch Championships this summer is yet another example of our city’s reputation as a sports tourism destination,” says Leduc Mayor Bob Young. “With visitors from across the country, events like these are a strong economic driver for our region, creating jobs and supporting our local businesses. We should all be proud of the overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants about our city.”

Sport Tourism Canada uses the STEAMPRO 2.0 Economic Impact Assessment model to determine the economic impact of the tournament. The assessment analyzes the economic activity of visitors measuring spending on accommodations, restaurants, groceries, entertainment, shopping and transportation.
