Update: Dog attacks in Leduc
Three dogs involved in dog attacks this past summer in Leduc have been euthanized. Dangerous Dog Act proceedings, through the Alberta Court of Justice, on this matter have now concluded. The owners are required to pay $1,400 in City bylaw fines.
On Nov. 1, City staff spoke with the families directly affected by the dog attacks to notify them the dogs had been put down.
“We know residents and the community-at-large have been worried about this situation,” says City of Leduc Mayor Bob Young. “Public safety – and by extension responsible pet ownership – is of the utmost priority for the City, and I hope that all involved can now heal and move forward.”
Amendments to the City’s Animal Licensing and Control Bylaw 580-2004 will soon come forward to City Council for consideration. These amendments will be focused on giving the City more immediate options when responding to situations like this.
