Leduc residents invited to community-wide support session
Leduc residents impacted by trauma and loss during the COVID-19 pandemic are invited to join us virtually on April 6, 2021 from 7 – 8:30 p.m., for a live presentation designed to help them learn to cope with these mental impacts. The broadcast will be streamed through the City of Leduc’s YouTube channel as subject matter experts and city representatives address the pandemic, trauma, loss and its effects on a community, followed by a question and answer period. Residents with questions can submit them beforehand or during the session by emailing questions@leduc.ca.
“Throughout the pandemic, we have seen an outpouring of kindness and compassion for those who have been deeply impacted,” says Leduc Mayor Bob Young. “As a community, we have always pulled together to support those going through a difficult time. Caring is in Leduc’s DNA, and together we will continue to be there for and help one another.”
The session will be moderated by MLA Brad Rutherford (Leduc-Beaumont) and will include presentations by trauma expert Kevin Cameron of the North American Center for Threat Assessment and Trauma Response, registered psychologist Sheila Chauvet, and the City of Leduc’s Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) department who will share city resources and programs available to support residents and families.
“The impacts of the pandemic are enough to drain a person’s emotional and mental strength, so it is very important to acknowledge the added stress trauma and loss can have on one’s resiliency and ability to cope,” says Amanda Ulrickson, manager of FCSS. “The feelings you may be experiencing are normal and we are here to help if you need it.”
