City announces partnership to build affordable housing options

Monday, May 17, 2021

At the May 17th meeting of Leduc City Council, the City announced a partnership with Habitat for Humanity, Qualico and Pacesetter Homes that will see two duplex homes built in the Meadowview community and made available to eligible families in need of affordable home ownership.

The City has donated four lots to Habitat for Humanity in support of this partnership. Construction on the affordable homes began last month and is expected to be completed in October 2021. The recruitment of eligible families in Leduc is currently underway.

“Building community has been council’s primary mission for the last three years, so partnering on this project to provide affordable housing options to Leduc families is a very natural fit,” said Leduc Mayor Bob Young. “Creating pathways to home ownership will make a real difference in people’s lives, and we are so pleased to partner with Habitat for Humanity, Qualico, and Pacesetter Homes to make this a reality in our community.”

“Habitat for Humanity brings communities together to provide affordable homeownership, and we do this through strategic partnerships,” said Dr. Ann-Marie Reddy, President and CEO, Habitat for Humanity Edmonton. “Habitat and our partners are building homes that will be more than just a place to live. We’re building homes to provide much needed stability and independence for parents and children. Thank you to the City of Leduc, Qualico, and Pacesetter Homes for your forward-thinking and commitment to provide affordable home ownership to families.”

“Pacesetter Homes is grateful to give back to the community of Leduc by helping four families in such a meaningful way,” said Sandra Young, VP of Pacesetter Homes Edmonton. “By collaborating with community leaders like Habitat for Humanity, and building partnerships with the intention of being accessible and inclusive, we are helping more people achieve their goal of home ownership.”
