City adds new Ford Escape EV to its fleet

The City of Leduc has purchased a new Ford Escape plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), which will be used by a Safety Codes Officer in the Building and Inspection Services department. 

The 2023 Ford Escape PHEV has a purchase price of $41,199, and a MCCAC grant covers $7,000 of the total price. Additionally, the city also received a federal grant of $5,000. 

“We are thrilled to introduce another electric vehicle to the city’s fleet,” said Leduc Mayor Bob Young. “Whenever an opportunity presents itself to us that helps the environment, and our community, we’re going to take a serious look at it.”

The new Ford Escape joins the city’s growing electric fleet of vehicles, including its Chevrolet Volt, the Leduc Recreation Centre’s EV Zamboni, and two John Deere electric gators used by the operations staff. The Escape emits roughly 44% less greenhouse gas emissions per year, compared to the gasoline-powered edition. 

The city remains committed to finding ways to lower its carbon footprint and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to ensure residents live in a healthy community they can be proud of.
