'Not the Plan:' Leduc launches homelessness awareness campaign
The City of Leduc launched Not the Plan, on May 24 -- a homelessness awareness campaign based on the stories of Leduc residents who are unhoused or on the brink of experiencing homelessness. The campaign features three short videos and will be seen in the community through social media, digital advertising and on Leduc Transit buses and shelters .
“The causes of homelessness are complex and the result of multiple factors like poverty, lack of affordable housing, family violence, economic conditions and a lack of social supports,” says Amanda Ulrickson, Manager of Family and Community Support Services in the City of Leduc. “We hope our Not the Plan campaign will help the community understand and support the kinds of changes that can improve the situation.”
This campaign is identified in Leduc’s Homelessness and Poverty Prevention Framework. Completed in early 2021, this Framework outlines strategies, policies and initiatives that complement community efforts in the areas of affordable housing, mental health and addiction, food security and improving access to services.
“As a community, we need to come together and enhance preventative measures and strategies in Leduc to support our residents before they are faced with homelessness,” Ulrickson says. “Every person deserves to be treated with dignity and respect and have access to safe and secure housing."
