Indigenous History Month in Leduc

As National Indigenous History Month draws to a close, we want to again reflect on the importance of Treaty, Truth and Reconciliation in the Leduc community. This past month encouraged celebration, connection and exploration of the rich history and resiliency of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples across Canada. Our own Leduc community engaged in a variety of initiatives throughout the month to listen, learn and honour these distinct cultures. 

In June: 

• Approximately 200 people attended the Indigenous Peoples' Day Community Gathering and Good Neighbour BBQ
• More than 100 tickets were purchased for the Maclab's Indigenous Series Performance by Cris Derksen
• Residents participated in the Leduc Public Library's Invitation to Indigenous Reading

Thank you to everyone who came out to participate, learn and connect. How we celebrate Indigenous history, whether through experiencing the rich cultures or learning about their journeys, moves us another step closer to genuine reconciliation, in our community, the region, province and across Canada.
