City and Leduc RCMP welcome trick-or-treaters for Halloween event

On Oct. 28, 2024, Leduc RCMP and the City of Leduc invite families with children eight years of age and under to safely trick-or-treat at the Protective Services Building (4119 50 Street) in Leduc from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

This fang-tastic event will give kids the chance to meet local first responders including RCMP and Enforcement officers, firefighters, Safety Bear and Sparky, and get some treats for Halloween. 

"We encourage kids to come dressed up in their costumes to trick-or-treat and interact with our staff for a hauntingly ghoul-time," says RCMP Constable Cheri-Lee Smith. 

City of Leduc Fire Services administrative staff will hand out treats to children eight years of age and under on Oct. 31 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Protective Services Building. Officers will also patrol the spooky streets on Halloween, and City firefighters will be in the community handing out candy, to help ensure it's a safe and frightfully fun evening for all. 

Whether you're a trick-or-treater or staying home, please consider these safety tips: 

Tips for trick-or-treaters: 

• Wear bright coloured costumes and use reflective tape or glow sticks to be more visible to drivers. 
• Use a flashlight and stay in well-lit areas. 
• Wear make-up instead of a mask. Masks can impair your vision and hearing. If you wear a mask, remove while walking from house to house and crossing streets. 
• Always walk on sidewalks. 
• Stay on one side of the street. Safely cross the street to the houses on the other side. Do not crisscross back-and-forth. 
• Stay on the doorstep or sidewalk. Never go inside the home or car of someone you don’t know. 
• Have your guardian check your treats before eating them. 
• Be accompanied by a trusted adult. 
• Travel in groups if you are unsupervised. 

Tips for homeowners: 

• Keep porch lights or external security lights on. 
• Keep doors clear and accessible and avoid decorations that are flammable or pose a tripping hazard. 
• Don’t invite children inside your home. 
• Only pass out commercially wrapped candy and snacks. 
• Keep pets indoors as they may be easily scared by children in costumes.
