Nominate someone for Leduc’s Citizens of Distinction Awards

Wednesday, January 15, 2025

Do you know someone who deserves to be celebrated? Whether they’ve coached a sports team to success; enriched the local arts, culture and heritage scene; championed environmental stewardship; or inspired their neighbours through selfless service, this is your chance to ensure their contributions are recognized.

The City of Leduc is calling on residents to nominate extraordinary individuals and groups (before March 31) who make our community a better place. These awards celebrate the spirit of volunteerism, leadership and community involvement that helps Leduc thrive.

The Citizens of Distinction awards span a range of categories, each designed to recognize unique contributions:

  • Athletic Achievement Award: honouring coaches, mentors or volunteers who elevate Leduc’s sports and recreation scene, bringing pride and recognition to the community
  • Arts, Culture, and Heritage Recognition Award: celebrating those who nurture and advance Leduc’s vibrant arts, cultural and heritage sectors
  • Environmental Award: recognizing those who champion environmental conservation, protection and enhancement efforts
  • Community Spirit Award: highlighting leaders whose service and dedication inspire and benefit others in the community
  • Youth Award of Merit: showcasing young leaders (16 years old or younger) who have made a positive impact among their peers, schools or neighbourhoods

The nomination process is open year-round, with a deadline of March 31, 2025, for this year’s awards. Nominations are reviewed and awarded by the City’s Citizen Recognition Committee, which selects the recipients. Winners will be honoured at Leduc’s annual VolunteerFest event in the fall.

Since the program began in 1998, the Citizens of Distinction Awards have recognized a total of 137 recipients. Last year, six awards were presented to individuals and groups whose efforts exemplified dedication, creativity and a commitment to making Leduc a better place to live.
