Leduc raises Rainbow Flag in celebration of Pride Week

Today, the City of Leduc raised the Rainbow Flag for the second year in a show of solidarity and support for the LGBTQ2S+ community. Pride Week was also proclaimed from June 10-16, 2019, bringing greater visibility to the city’s advancement of inclusiveness in our community.

“Leduc is a welcoming and diverse community and we are very pleased to celebrate our LGBTQ2S+ residents once again this year with our second annual Rainbow Flag Raising event,” says Leduc Mayor Bob Young. “Promoting inclusiveness and recognizing the contributions that our LGBTQ2S+ community makes to Leduc is a priority for us, so we are happy to proclaim June 10-16, 2019 Pride Week in Leduc.”

In addition to the flag raised outside the Civic Centre, Rainbow Flags were also raised at locations throughout the city including the Operations Building, Protective Services Building, Fire House 2, Telford House and Fred Johns Park. The flags are scheduled to remain at least through the end of Pride Week.

“Raising the Rainbow Flag throughout our city shows that we will not stand for discrimination against the LGBTQ2S+ community in Leduc,” says Young.

Diversity and inclusiveness were both included in City Council’s 2019-2022 Strategic Plan, identifying these as key areas of focus for the city.
