City enters into a Memorandum of Understanding with Leduc Arts Foundry

The City of Leduc recognizes the importance of arts and culture in creating a healthy, sustainable, social and economically viable community. To ensure the continued recognition, the city has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Leduc Arts Foundry (LAF) to advance the search for an arts centre space together.

“Arts and culture enhances community livability, aligning with our focus of making Leduc a city where people want to live, work and play,” says Leduc Mayor Bob Young. “Last year, we established an Arts, Culture and Heritage department at the city, and earlier this year we acquired operations of the Maclab Centre for the Performing Arts. We want to continue with this strong momentum, which is why we will continue working with the Leduc Arts Foundry to explore the creation of an arts centre where people are encouraged to be creative and feel inspired.”

Under the MOU, the city and LAF will cooperate to generate a supportive co-creative process that maximizes cultural, economic, social and environmental sustainability in the ongoing search for an arts centre space.

“We are excited to continue to work with the City of Leduc to find the perfect space for an arts centre,” said Chandell Popik, Chair, Leduc Arts Foundry. “The building of an arts centre cannot be viewed as simply another facility, but as a signal to the elevation of arts and culture in Leduc. We are enriching the community with stimulating and diverse artistic and cultural development, where people are welcomed to gather and experience art in all its forms.”

The details of the MOU set foundational principles for both groups to work together and determine direction for each party. As the parties are in the preliminary planning phase, further plans will be developed over the coming months. Additional information will be shared on Leduc.ca as it becomes available.
