City of Leduc Names New Chief Administrative Officer
Leduc City Council last night announced the appointment of Derek Prohar to the position of Chief Administrative Officer, effective September 8, 2020. A highly regarded military officer with the Department of National Defense, Colonel Prohar brings to the role a long career in leadership, operational planning, and strategic analysis.
“I am thrilled to announce Derek’s appointment to the role of Chief Administrative Officer,” said Leduc Mayor Bob Young. “Council conducted a nation-wide search to find the right fit for the job and we are confident that we have found that in Derek. He brings with him a wealth of experience in building strong, dynamic, and high-performing teams with a focus on operational and strategic excellence.”
Michael Pieters will continue in his role as Acting City Manager until Mr. Prohar’s start in September.
“I want to thank Council for all their efforts in filling this critical position for our organization and community,” continued Mayor Young. “I further want to thank Mr. Pieters and City Administration for their hard work and dedication over this time of transition.”
Mr. Prohar holds a degree in Political Science and Economics from McGill University, as well as a Master of Defence Studies from the Royal Military College of Canada.
“I am very excited to be joining the City of Leduc and look forward to leading the team in the coming years,” said Mr. Prohar. “The reputation of excellence that the City of Leduc staff holds is one of the reasons I wanted to be a part of this organization. Alongside Mayor Young and Council, and building on the legacy of my predecessor Paul Benedetto and acting City Manager Mike Pieters, I will endeavour to continue to move the community and the organization forward.”
