Lizzy Hoyt – Ancient Carols on a Winter’s Night

Friday, September 27, 2019

With the voice of an angel, Lizzy Hoyt delivers a magical evening of ancient carols to celebrate Christmas!

Lizzy has always felt a strong connection to the ancient melodies of early carols from Europe and the British Isle. So, when the opportunity arose to create a Christmas show, she knew exactly where to start! Lizzy spent time exploring this rich repertoire of music and discovered some less-known carols. She mixed them with her favourites, arranged them for her trio of Celtic instruments and is now bringing them on the road to share with others!

Many of the early melodies date to Pagan times and as such, are perfectly suited to the sounds and colours of a Celtic musician who plays fiddle, guitar, Celtic harp and the mandolin. Some songs tell the ancient stories of Christmas — the three wise men, King Herrod and King Wenceslas — while others simply sing of joy, peace and celebration!

During this 90 minute show, audiences will hear well-known carols, hidden gems and will enjoy a warm and festive atmosphere. As usual, Lizzy’s performances feature a mix of songs and instrumental numbers that include lively fiddle tunes and haunting Celtic harp medleys.

Lizzy’s voice will bring light and warmth to the darkest and coldest of December nights. Come enjoy this Christmas show of ancient carols delivered by one of Canada’s most exciting Celtic-folk artists. There is no better way to welcome the season!
