Construction FAQs

Roads in the hospital area have been identified for reconstruction or overlay this season, as well as some underground work, to ensure their continued stability and safety for years to come. Note: Emergency vehicle access and drop-off access to the Leduc Community Hospital will be maintained at all times.

Detours and Access Points:

*Updated Sept. 23: Paving will be completed this week and all roads will be reopened.

Reconstructions:

  • 43A Ave, 48 Street (between Black Gold Drive and 42 Avenue)
    • Includes reconstruction of 43A Ave sidewalks; replacement of sanitary, storm, and water lines on 48 St; installation of new storm service on 43A Ave; cement stabilization of road subgrade, new granular base, and new asphalt surface
  • 43 Avenue (between 48 Street and 47 Street)
    • Includes reconstruction of curb and gutter; pulverizing of road asphalt surface; foaming pulverized asphalt and granular surface; and a new asphalt surface
  • 47 Street (between 43 Avenue and 42 Avenue)
    • Includes reconstruction of sidewalks and curb; pulverizing of road asphalt surface; foaming pulverized asphalt and granular surface; and a new asphalt surface

Surface Overlays:

  • 42 Avenue (between 50 Street and 47 Street)
    • includes reconstruction of sidewalks and curb; asphalt milling and new asphalt surface
  • 47 Street (between Black Gold Drive and 43 Avenue)
    • includes reconstruction of sidewalks and curb; asphalt milling and new asphalt surface
  • 50th Street (at 43A Avenue/Corinthia Drive intersection)
    • includes asphalt milling and new asphalt surface through the intersection

Work will be completed in phases to minimize access disruptions for both residents and businesses. 

There may be temporary periods of impacts to street parking, waste collection, mail delivery, and bussing in order to complete the work as efficiently as possible. Residents living in the area are asked to please keep an eye out for signage and additional details from the contractor throughout the season.  

Project Update:

Sept. 22, 2022 Paving is now completed on 42 Avenue and continuing on 47 Street and 43 Avenue. Paving will be completed this week and all roads will be reopened. Landscape restoration will continue over the next several weeks. Please abide by the no parking signs set up intermittently for landscaping access.
Sept. 14, 2022 Paving is now completed on 43A Avenue and 48 Street. Base and concrete repairs are ongoing on sections of 42 Avenue. Milling and paving of 42 Avenue, 47 Street, and 43 Avenue is scheduled, weather permitting, for next week.
Sept. 8, 2022 Paving is scheduled for Saturday to Monday, pending weather. See maps for closures and dates. 
Saturday, Sept. 10: 48 Street (42 Ave. - 43A Ave.), 43 Ave, and 47th street will be closed on for the bottom lift of asphalt paving.                                           
Sunday, Sept. 11: 43A Ave will be closed for both the bottom and top lifts of asphalt paving. There will be no access to the 50th Street Leduc Plaza or the Extendicare on this day. At the end of the day the road will be reopened to traffic.
Monday, Sept. 12: 48 Street (42 Ave. - 43A Ave.) will be closed for the top lift of asphalt paving.
Landscape restoration will commence next week in the area and will continue for several weeks. The last of the concrete repairs on 42 Ave will also be completed. 
Sept. 1, 2022 Full depth reclamation of the 48 Street (42 Ave.-43A Ave.), 43 Ave, and 47 Street (42 Ave.-43 Ave.) is complete. Spot repairs will be completed this week in preparation for paving which is scheduled for late next week. 43A Avenue between 48 Street and 50 Street Leduc Plaza (McDonalds) entrance is complete to gravel base. Concrete work is ongoing and will be completed this week. Paving is scheduled for late next week.
Aug. 25, 2022 Full depth reclamation of the 48 Street (42Ave.-43A Ave.), 43 Avenue, and 47 Street (42Ave.-43 Ave.) will commence this Saturday. There will be no parking on either side of these roads during this time. This work is anticipated to take approxiately one week (weather dependant). Road access will be limited and residents should expect delays if they need to access their front drives during this time. Lane access will be maintained for all residents. Emergency access to the hospital will be maintained. Please see the map for temporary access points to the hospital.
43A Avenue between 48 Street and 50 Street Leduc Plaza (McDonalds) entrance remains closed as subgrade stabilization and gravel base install continues. Access to the plaza will be available from 48 Street to the east. Concrete work in this area will commence next week.  
Aug. 18, 2022 43A Avenue between 48 Street and 50 Street Leduc Plaza (McDonalds) entrance remains closed, access the plaza from 48 Street to the east, as subgrade stabilization and gravel base install continues. Concrete work in this area will start next week. Concrete curb, crossing and sidewalk are ongoing on the east side of 48 Street and north side of 42 Avenue. Landscape restoration has commenced on the south side of 42 Avenue. 
Aug. 11, 2022 43A Avenue between 48 Street and 50 Street Leduc Plaza (McDonalds) entrance remains closed as subgrade stabilization and gravel base install continues. On Saturday, Aug. 13, this area will be reopened on a gravel surface and the section between the 50 Street Leduc Plaza entrance and 50 Street will close for reconstruction. Access to the plaza will be available from 48 Street to the east. There will be no exit from the plaza onto 43A Avenue during this time. Concrete curb, crossing and sidewalk are ongoing on the east side of 48 Street and north side of 42 Avenue. Landscape restoration has commenced on the south side of 42 Avenue. 
Aug. 3, 2022 48 Street is open.  43A Avenue is now closed between 48th Street and the 50th Street Leduc Plaza (McDonalds) entrance.  Access to the plaza is available from eastbound 43A Avenue.  Lane access off of 43 Avenue will be restricted for the next 6 days while the concrete crossings are being poured on both the north and south lane entrances between 47 and 48 Street.
July 27, 2022 Paving is ongoing between 43A Avenue and Black Gold Drive on 48 Street. This section of road will be opened by the end of week.  Removals will commence on 43A Avenue between 48 Street and 50 Street Leduc Plaza next week. Concrete curb and walk install is complete, excluding some tie in points, on the west side of 48 Street. On Friday, regular access to the hospital will be opened.  Please see the posted map showing access locations. Removals of concrete have commenced on the south side of 43 Avenue, the east side of 48 Street, and the north side of 42 Avenue. Subgrade prep will commence this week and concrete will commence in this area next week. 
July 20, 2022 Concrete curb and east walk has been completed. Paving will commence mid-next week once the concrete is suitably cured. Removals will commence on 43A Avenue between 48 Street and 50 Street Leduc Plaza after the long weekend if weather conditions permit. Removals are complete on the east side of 48 Street, between 42 Avenue and 43A Avenue in front of the hospital. Concrete curb and walk install will commence this week. Removals on the east side of 48 Street in this area will immediately follow. Please see the posted map showing temporary access locations during this time as the current parking and emergency entrances are closed. There is currently no parking on either side of 48 Street in this section as work continues to ensure adequate room for emergency vehicles in this area. 
July 14, 2022 Gravel install is complete on 48 Street north of 43A Avenue and concrete walk and curb has commenced. Concrete work will continue over the next several days with paving to follow a week. Concrete walk is mostly complete, except for a few tie ins that will completed next week on 47 Street. Once the concrete work is completed everywhere else in the district, the contractor will commence surface rehabilitation of the road. Removals have started on the east side of 48th Street, between 42 Avenue and 43A Avenue in front of the hospital. Please see the posted map showing temporary access locations during this time as the current parking and emergency entrances are closed. There is currently no parking on either side of 48 Street in this section as work continues to ensure adequate room for emergency vehicles in this area. 
July 7, 2022 Work has continued on 47 Street and 48 Street north of 43A Avenue. If weather permits, work will be complete on 47th Street and will commence on 48th Street adjacent to the hospital early next week. This will change access to the hospital, please see closures and access map above showing temporary access to the hospital once the current entrances are closed.
June 29, 2022 Subgrade prep and cement stabilization has begun on 48 Street between Black Gold Drive and 43A Avenue. Gravel installation and prep for concrete curb and sidewalk will begin next week. Concrete curb and walk installation is underway on the west side of 47 Street and the north side of 43 Avenue, and will continue next week.
June 23, 2022 The rain continues to impact the scheduled subgrade prep that was planned on 48 Street between Black Gold Drive and 43A Avenue. Subgrade prep is now anticipated to begin next week. Removals of curb and walk are complete on the west side of 47 Street and the north side of 43 Avenue. Subgrade prep and granular installation are complete. The rain has impacted concrete installation in this area. It is anticipated to begin next week.
June 16, 2022 Underground utility replacements are complete on 48 Street between Black Gold Drive and 43A Avenue. Pressure testing of the waterline is complete. Residents that were on temporary water services for the duration of this work are now back on permanent water services. The weather has impacted the scheduled subgrade prep that was planned for this week. Sidewalk removals on the east side of this section and subgrade prep is now anticipated to begin next week. Concrete curb and monowalk installation is nearly complete on the east side of 47 Street and the south side of 42 Avenue save for a few lane tie-ins. Removals of curb and walk has begun on the west side of 47 Street north of 43 Avenue. The weather has also impacted the concrete install, which will be rescheduled when the base dries out. Removals are ongoing on the west side of 47 Street, between 42 Avenue and 43 Avenue. Base prep and granular install is expected to occur next week. 
June 7, 2022 The sanitary repair at 48 Street and 43 Avenue is complete and backfilled to gravel surface. Underground utility replacements are ongoing on 48 Street between Black Gold Drive and 43A Avenue. Pressure testing of the water line will begin this week. Next week, subgrade prep of this area will begin. Catchbasin installation on 43A Avenue is complete. Storm line installation on 43A Avenue will begin this week. Concrete curb and monowalk installation is ongoing on the east side of 47 Street and the south side of 42 Avenue. No parking signs will be relocated from the east side of 47 Street to the west side on June 8 in preparation for removals of concrete to begin later this week on the west side. Removals will continue down the west side of 47 Street, followed by the north side of 43 Avenue. 
May 26, 2022 Water valve installation is complete on 48 Street. The sanitary repair at 48 Street and 43 Avenue is complete; backfill is ongoing. Road will be restored to a gravel surface by the end of this week until paving is completed later this season. Surface removals and underground utility replacements have begun on 48 Street between Black Gold Drive adn 43A Avenue. A one-day closure will occure as shown in this map on Monday, May 30, to install two storm catchbasins and leads. During this closure, access to Savanna Villas and Black Gold Plaza will be via 42 Avenue to 48 Street to 43A Avenue. Concrete curb and monowalk removals and grading have begun on the east side of 47 Street. Removals and grading will continue south on the east side of 47 Street and continue west on the south side of 42 Avenue. Granular base installation will begin this week in these areas. Residents are asked to please be mindful of the temporary no-parking signage to help facilitate construction. 
May 19, 2022 48 Street is closed between Black Gold Drive and 43A Avenue--will remain closed approx. 2 months while underground services are replaced and road is reconstructed. A single-lane closure eastbound on Black Gold Drive is in place to accommodate a safe parking area for LATS buses. Construction began May 16 with the installation of water valves in preparation for the 48 Street underground replacements. Some area residents may experience a temporary water service disruption May 19 as valves are installed. Residents and businesses impacted by this have been notified. A small closure on 48 Street between 43A Avenue and 43 Avenue is also in place for valve installation. Next week, a sanitary line repair will occur at the 48 Street and 43 Avenue intersection, which will be closed for several days. Concrete curb and walk removals will begin on the east side of 47 Street and south side of 42 Avenue, followed by base prep and gravel installation. Please see detour signage for access to the area, including the Leduc Community Hospital. 
May 18, 2022 On-time - Some residents and businesses in the area may experience a temporary water outage on Thursday May 19. Notices have been delivered directly to those impacted. 
Apr. 27, 2022 Scheduled - Start date revised to begin May 16, 2022 due to underground frost. Please see detour signage for access to the area, including the Leduc Community Hospital.
Apr. 20, 2022 Scheduled - Project has been awarded to contractor. Construction scheduled to begin on May 2, 2022 with underground work on 48 Street. 48 Street will be closed between Black Gold Drive and 43 Avenue starting May 2. Please see detour signage for access to the area, including the Leduc Community Hospital. 
Feb. 23, 2022 Scheduled - Project currently in the design and procurement phase. Additional information will follow prior to construction.
