48A Street Roadwork
Roads and sidewalks on 48A Street between Black Gold Drive and 47 Avenue will see full reconstruction this year. In addition, the replacement of water and sanitary infrastructure due to deterioration and increase the water main capacity to ensure their continued stability and safety for years to come.
A phased closure of 48A Street will occur to accommodate bus services at École Leduc Junior High School.
There may be temporary periods of impacts to water service, street parking, mail delivery, and bussing in order to complete the work as efficiently as possible. Residents in the area are encouraged to please keep an eye out for signage and additional details from the contractor throughout the season.
Note: If you have new concrete installed on your property for less than one year, the application of ice melt may cause damage. The City recommends using sand to control ice on new concrete for the first year. Free sand and chips bins are placed around the City for you – find your closest bin location.

| Oct. 18, 2023 | 48a Street construction has been completed. |
| Sept. 20, 2023 | The final lift of asphalt has been paved and the final sections of concrete are being poured, after the concrete is completed. Landscape restoration will begin, which is planned for the week of September 25. |
| Sept. 14, 2023 | Paving of the top lift of asphalt for 48A Street will occur this weekend (Sept. 15-17). To prepare for paving the final lift of asphalt on 48A Street, the street will be cleaned and tacking will be placed on the surface on Friday, Sept.15. Paving will also occur on 46 Avenue. The paving crew will get started on Friday with cleaning and tacking 48A Street and continue with paving over the weekend. Gravel placement under the sidewalk has been completed and pouring of concrete will be occuring over the next two weeks. The landscape restoration will be starting the week of Sept. 25 or as soon as possible following concrete completion. |
| Aug. 31, 2023 | Work has started on 46 Street and has been brought up to gravel. 48A Street has been opened to local traffic and sidewalk replacements will begin next week. |
| Aug. 23, 2023 | The base lift of asphalt has been paved and the road will be opened for local traffic only. Replacement of the sidewalks on the west side of the road is begining along with 46 Avenue between 48A Street and 48 Street. |
| Aug. 9, 2023 | Concrete is being placed on the north half of 48A Street and the remainder of the road is being prepped for paving which is set to occur at the end of next week. |
| Aug. 2, 2023 | Concrete continues to be poured on the south half of 48A Street. The north section continues to be prepared for gravel and gravel is expected to be placed by the end of this week. |
| July 26, 2023 | Gravel has been placed on the south half of 48A Street and concrete forming has begun. Subgrade preparation is nearing completion on the north half and gravel is expected to be placed in the next week. |
| July 12, 2023 | The sanitary and water utility replacements have been completed on 48A Street and temporary water will be removed by July 17. Work on the road structure is ongoing with gravel to be placed within the next couple of weeks. |
| June 29, 2023 | Work on the road structure has begun on the section north of 46 Ave, this includes the removals of the sidewalk and prepping the road for paving. Utility work continues to progress southward. 48A Street is completely closed from Black Gold Drive to 47 Ave with school out for summer. |
| June 21, 2023 | Replacement of the sanitary and water lines has continued south past 46 Ave. Work on the road structure will begin next week on the north portion of 48A Street. Sidewalks north of 46 Ave will be closed as removal and replacement of the sidewalks begin. Access to the bus lane will be closed on June 28 after school has been completed. |
| June 8, 2023 | Replacement of the sanitary and water lines continues to progress south towards 46 Ave. Additional houses will be hooked up to temporary water in the upcoming week. |
| May 31, 2023 | The sanitary and water tie-ins at the north end of 48A Street have been completed. Replacement of the sanitray and water mains will continue progressing southward and work will begin on replacing the services up to the property line. |
| May 24, 2023 | Construction has begun on 48A St. with road closures starting this week. Work will begin on the north end near 47 Ave. and move south. Temporary water will be set up to ensure services are maintained. There will be temporary closures to portions of the sidewalk where new services are being installed to the property line. |
| May 17, 2023 | Utility work on 48A Street is scheduled to begin May 23. The Leduc Civic Centre will be open throughout construction. Access to the Civic Centre parking lot will be impacted at different times. Visitors can follow detour signage for directions to access the lot through the back lane. A phased closure of 48A Street will occur to accommodate bus services at École Leduc Junior High School. |
